“Ethera Api” Organization condemns the statement made by former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that Sri Lankans who arrived from Kuwait were a group infected with COVID-19, was selected by the State of Kuwait and also comparing their arrival to a bomb attack.
Issuing a statement to the public the Ethera Api Organization states that a number of points he made were baseless and false accusations, especially, the accusation that the group that arrived was selected by the State of Kuwait and they were sent without any medical testing is false. Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Kuwait, making a statement to ‘Arab Times’, had stated that the four hundred and sixty six persons in the group were subjected to medical tests, only four of them were hospitalized after considering their medical reports and only one person among them had been infected with the COVID-19 virus. A large number of Sri Lankans in countries in the Middle East including Kuwait have been asking to be brought back to Sri Lanka. They have been making this request for more than two months. However, due to the negligence of the government to get down the Sri Lankans to their Motherland, the situation aggravated and insulting the Sri Lankans who are distressed and the foreign states that provided all the facilities to bring them back to our country cannot be accepted.
Making use of this incident, the government is attempting to stop bringing back Sri Lankans who are distressed due to the pandemic in various countries.
Issuing a statement to the public the Ethera Api further states that; “Any government is bound under any circumstances to ensure the protection of its citizens. This responsibility and the move by government’s agents to accuse the distressed citizens and the states that provide various assistance to enable them to be brought back to their Motherland. For, it is essential to understand that a large number of Sri Lankans, more than the numbers that have come back, are in those countries and the governments of these countries provide relief and various assistance to them under the corona situation.”
