A symbolic protest was held in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Sri Lanka Wednesday (10) condemning the overthrow of the democratically elected government in Myanmar and the murderous rule of the military.
Members of progressive political parties and social organizations took part in the protest, which was thwarted by an organizer’s attempt to deliver a protest message to the Myanmar ambassador.
Political and social activists presented in the protest stated that they are ready to protest against the military rule in the future with the participation of a large number of people.
As many as 100 civilians were killed in what became known as the February 1 military coup. Many countries around the world have condemned the coup and called on the military to re-establish democratic government.
